No iPhone 3G until July 11th?

Well, great news about the announcement of the iPhone 3G. Pretty disappointed that it’s not available until July 11th. After waiting for the official word and then listening to the live audio feed from WWDC ‘08, eager Apple fans have to wait an entire month? I’ve got my eye on a 16GB in black, and the $299 price point is impressive.

Almighty Amazon hath fallen. C’mon, at least make the error page more exciting. Or give every Nth visitor a coupon code like the bottle cap game? Flash game maybe?

The second mouse gets the cheese.

Anonymous.

As a self-proclaimed innovator, it’s somewhat unnatural to think that being the second one to the scene can sometimes be better than being the first.

MacBook Pro drinks coffee.

Whilst working diligently, I accidentally swatted a half-full cup of Starbucks iced coffee on to my 3-month-old MacBook Pro. A nasty thing to do on a sunny Friday afternoon. It only took a second or two for the screen to go black. It drank about a quarter of a cup of bean. And I mean drank. When I lifted up the machine and tilted it, coffee would pour out from 3 sides. Unfortunately for you guys, the first thing that came to mind wasn’t to take a picture. My theory is that the caffeine had a steroid effect and that the machine is now more powerful than before. I had to tap the power button to check for a pulse. It did in fact come to life, but I turned it off. I’ll probably disassemble it and mop the insides before attempting to use it. Let this be a lesson to you all, and serve as a formal excuse for not promptly replying to e-mails, Facebook messages, and the like.

UPDATE: It survived! I can’t believe it even turned on. Keyboard was a little quirky though. I think a few keys were stuck or shorted, not to mention the entire computer reeked like your local Starbucks. Resetting the SMC cured 99% of the strange behavior, but operation of the arrow keys, left Shift, and “i” keys was still intermittent. Don’t you know it’s best to ignore your problems until they go away? Two days later and the entire keyboard works. The other problem with stuck keys is that your computer wakes up instantly after it goes into sleep mode, but this stopped too. The moral of the story: only spill coffee on a Mac ;)

Google’s new favicon gives the company a more casual and cartoonish appearance.  I like it. I don’t love it. I wonder how many design iterations it took, and how many candidates were in the final round. It’s only a 16x16 pixel update, but it does get a lot of visibility.
